I love clever coffee-making devices, and the Bellman CX25P has become one of my favorites. It makes a splendid little quasi-espresso and the steam wand, once mastered, produces prodigious amounts of foamy deliciousness. I was originally going to buy the steamer-only model (50SS) but decided impulsively to spring for the espresso add-on (CX25), and then, throwing all caution and sense of thrift to the wind, bought the CX25P. I justified the expense by counting it as a Christmas present to myself in an otherwise lean year. The device is exceptionally well-made, with all stainless chambers, durable rubber gaskets, and cool-to-the-touch Bakelite handles and knobs. I expect it will serve us well for many years.
The quality and thought that went into this unique design are evident in every part assembled to create the whole. I've enjoyed making coffee using a wide variety of techniques over the past two decades and this little Bellman has been one of the more challenging to say the least. Two years ago my wife and I decided to move aboard our sailboat full-time and I had to give up my commercial-grade Italian espresso maker due to the weight, size and power consumption. During that time we made some great coffee and espressos, but I could never steam and froth milk anywhere near the silkiness of a nice steam wand. I considered the Bellman many times, but was never in one spot long enough to have one shipped to us -. until 3 weeks ago. After watching several "how to" videos we decided not just to get the steam wand version, but to go "all out" and try the CX25P. Shortly after doing so, I realized that if I wanted to get 120ml of espresso, a double shot for myself and my better half I would need to seriously upgrade our grinder. Get the right grind for your bean, roast, dose and pressure and you will be rewarded with an excellent shot of espresso! It was a long learning curve to get that 120ml of "perfection", but well worth it. A 60ml shot is a different story - much, much easier to get right after just a few tries. The steam wand on the other hand is sooo easy to use and has the steam and pressure of a commercial-grade machine. I wish the tip was removable so I could swap it out and fine-tune it to our blend of milk/cream, but that's not necessary for a great cappuccino or latte. Overall I'd say this little coffee maker is definitely worth a try, especially if your living space is limited!
It was very nice made great coffee, my girl is a barista and now we can have good coffee anywhere we want
Excellent Cappuccino. I have the original version of this unit when it was a plug in with the heating element inside the vessel. This stove top version works just as well and I love the pressure gauge. I recommend a metal container to capture the coffee on the stove and steam the milk at the same time.
Hi Robert, Thanks for your review, we're glad you're enjoying your new Bellman Steamer!
We are loving our new steamer / espresso maker. It has taken a while to get the timing / pressure / process down, but learning that has been a satisfying and fun experience. Awesome, elegant little machine!
