Help & FAQs

Before You Buy

What is the difference between the Bellman CX-25S and CX-25P?

The CX-25S (50SS) only has a steam wand to steam and froth milk.  The CX-25P has a steam wand but can also brew espresso shots like a traditional stovetop coffee maker, making it the ultimate all-in-one coffee maker!

How can I heat the Bellman CX-25S and CX-25P models?

The Bellman CX-25S (50SS) and CX-25P units are compatible with gas, electric, ceramic and most induction cooktops (cooktop must be suitable for 304 grade stainless steel). If you find yourself camping it will also work over a fire, as long as flames are contained to the base of the unit only.

Which model should I choose?

If you are just looking for a way to steam/ froth your milk to add to your regular coffee then the CX-25S (50SS) will give you silky, micro foam milk. If you want an all-in-one brewer then the CX-25P will let you pull creamy espresso shots and steam/froth your milk with the built-in steam wand. Perfect for home, camping and travel.

Warranty, Refund & Return

My Bellman has stopped working, what should I do?

A quick fix to try first is purging the steam wand (CX-25P and 50SS/CX-25S models) or the coffee valve (CX-25P models only). This will clear any build up of milk residue in the steam wand or coffee fines in the coffee valve that may be obstructing flow. Simply fill each unit with water for normal operation and flush the steam wand or coffee valve without any coffee grounds loaded in the unit. Unscrew the tip of the steam wand for access to inside of the wand.

Full cleaning instructions can be found in the instruction manual that came with your Bellman. You can also view additional troubleshooting in the product specific FAQs below.

If this does not solve the issue or you need additional assistance please contact one of our customer service team members via the Contact page or by emailing help@bellmanespresso.com directly.

CX-25P

What pressure do I use to brew espresso?

To achieve a constant, steady flow of espresso open the coffee valve to start extraction at 0.5 to 1.2 bar of pressure. If your grind size is very fine you might find that a slightly higher pressure is needed but we recommend avoiding going higher than 1.5 bar of pressure as this will overheat and burn the coffee grounds.

Higher temperatures/pressures make stronger espresso because it increases extraction yield. However, brewing at higher temperatures will compromise the flavour of your espresso. If you want stronger espresso it is better to increase coffee volume rather than temperature/pressure.  Practice will help achieve the correct balance.

What pressure do I use to steam milk?

The optimal pressure to steam milk is between 1.5 to 2 bar of pressure.

How much espresso does the CX-25P produce?

The CX-25P is capable of producing enough espresso to make 3, 6 or 9 shots of espresso if the extraction process is completed correctly. However, optimum use will only produce 1 to 4 strong shots of espresso and this is enough for 4 coffees. Beyond this the extracted espresso will be watery and thin.

How much water do I need to fill in the unit?

There are water level markings inside the body of the CX-25P that are indicative of the amount of water to fill for 3, 6 or 9 shots of espresso (optimum use will only produce up to 4 shots). Using hot water will speed up the brewing process. The unit should not be overfilled past the highest level marking. For best results and stronger espresso, fill the unit half way.

Do I need to fill the filter basket completely with coffee?

The coffee basket comes with a basket adapter that will let you reduce the volume from a full filter basket to 2/3 capacity and also 1/3 capacity depending on which way you insert the adapter. However, for best results we recommend filling the filter basket to 2/3 capacity at a minimum or full capacity.

Do I need to use paper filters with the CX-25P?

Paper filters are optional to use. We recommend using a paper filter on top of the coffee in your filter basket to help eliminate very small coffee fines from travelling through into your espresso. Traditional stove top espresso makers do not use paper filters so you can try both ways to see the difference!

What grind size should I use?

You will need to use espresso/stove top size ground coffee. If you are buying pre ground coffee this will be easy but if you are grinding your own coffee beans you will need to dial in a fine grind, being careful not to grind extremely fine especially if you are using the Bellman tamper to tamp the grounds in your basket. If you find that coffee does not pour at all or drips only very slowly then your grind size may be too fine or you may be tamping too hard.

My CX-25P is heating but does not build pressure?

Check the safety release valve – if steam is venting from the valve the unit may have been heated too much and safe operating pressure exceeded to open the safety release valve. In rare instances the safety release valve can remain open and will prevent your unit from building pressure in future. If this happens please contact us for steps on how to reset the safety release valve.

50SS / CX-25S

How do I know when the unit has reached the correct pressure to steam?

When you first starting heating the unit keep the heat on high and open the steam knob fully. When the water boils you will see steam vent through the steam wand. Turn the steam knob closed and turn the heat to medium to continue to build pressure in the unit. IMPORTANT: you will need to keep venting the steam wand to check the pressure build up. Do not let the pressure build too high otherwise the safety release valve will vent. This is not a safe operating pressure.

When you can vent the steam wand and achieve a strong, steady jet of dry steam you can begin to steam milk.

My CX-25S is heating but does not build pressure?

Check the safety release valve – if steam is venting from the valve the unit may have been heated too much and safe operating pressure exceeded to open the safety release valve. In rare instances the safety release valve can remain open and will prevent your unit from building pressure in future. If this happens please contact us for steps on how to reset the safety release valve.

How much water do I need to fill in the unit?

Fill the unit between ¼ and ½ full for best results. Do not fill past the half way mark.

How much milk can I steam with the CX-25S (50SS)?

The unit will create enough pressure to steam more than one jug of milk. Keeping the unit on a heat source while steaming on medium heat setting will also help to maintain heat/pressure in the unit and maximise how much you can steam.
